Celebrating Faith and Courage in Champions and Leaders
Have you noticed the expressions on people's faces? Sometimes, a look can convey negativity, ignorance, disbelief, or disinterest. Today, I encourage you to consider what your face says about your character. As followers of Christ, our expressions should reflect humility, kindness, and love — building others up instead of tearing them down. Let's display the true spirit of God's children in our faces and hearts.
More than 180,000 African American soldiers served in the Union Army during the Civil War and of these, sixteen earned the Medal of Honor. Soldiers like Sergeant William H. Carney, Private James Daniel Gardner, Corporal Miles James, Thomas R. Hawkins and Christian Fleetwood were awarded for personal acts of valor that were above and beyond the call of duty. 14 of 16 Medals of Honor awarded for actions at the Battle of New Market Heights. Over 50 % black troops killed, wounded, or captured.

The Gloucester Institute is committed to providing an intellectually safe environment where ideas can be discussed and transformed into practical solutions that produce results. Gloucester provides a peaceful place to restore and refresh leaders, and to train and nurture emerging leaders. The County lands, occupied for centuries by tribes of eastern woodland Indians, were settled by the English in the 1600's. The County was created in 1790 from adjacent Gloucester County, and is the second smallest county in Virginia. It is located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay and has over 200 miles of shoreline on only 87 square miles of land. In addition to its Chesapeake Bay shoreline, there are three tidal rivers and fifty navigable creeks with loads of access sites. We're just ninety minutes east of Richmond. The paddling and other water sports, fishing, crabbing and oysters are exceptional. Mathews is the home to the third oldest lighthouse on the Bay, a cultural arts center, Virginia's Lil' Ole Opry, two museums, nature preserves, and an active artisan community, Mathews County offers something for everyone.
Gloucester County, Virginia is a great place to live, work and play.

This tribute honors the 2020 Gloucester High School Marching Dukes senior class. They have truly paved the way and set the example for other band members. They have been dedicated to our program for four years now, and were unfortunately their senior year was cut short for safety concerns. To all the seniors, you have made a difference in all of our lives. You have been a constant reminder of what if truly means to be a Marching Duke. Thank you! Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose. Good luck in your future endeavors! “Before you leave the band room for the last time, stop and look around for just one moment. These four walls have seen you at your worst and your best, they had watched families created and fall apart, they have seen love between two people and one sided crushes, they have seen the person you were when you walked the in for the first time and now have seen the person you at for the last time. And when you turn back around and walk through the halls for the never last time, known those walls are silently weeping and maybe you are too because you both have realized that in order to so somewhere in life, you must leave home.” -The Silent Saxophone Player A huge thanks to the Band Mega Nerd Team, along with the GHS Marching Dukes Facebook page photos for their contributions to this video! A walk through the tourist district in Niagara Falls Canada along Clifton Hill to the American and Horseshoe Falls. In this video I walk east from the parking lot along Ferry Street which turns into Victoria Avenue, then head south down Clifton Hill which is the main tourist strip and walk along the American Falls over to the Horseshoe Falls. I park for free at a municipal parking at Gladstone Avenue and Ferry Street. It's about a 10 minute walk to Clifton Hill from there, but it for me it sure beats paying up to $20 to park in that area. This walk took place on Tuesday, July 23rd at around 4pm. It was 26 degrees celsius or about 79 Farenheit and the entire walk is just under 3 km.
